Principal Software Engineer (Remote Eligible in Bulgaria)

Smartsheet is looking for a Principal Software Engineer located in Bulgaria to lead the design and implementation of next-generation architecture for high-availability distributed systems.

Requirements

• Legally eligible to work in Bulgaria on an ongoing basis
• Fluency in English
• Proven experience in system architecture across multiple languages (Python, Go, Java, C/C++, SQL)
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices
• Experience in cloud architectures, infrastructure at scale, and database optimization

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of Smartsheet's next-generation architecture
• Define and drive architecture strategy and make key technical decisions
• Review and guide technical project designs
• Mentor senior engineers and foster technical leadership across teams
• Collaborate closely with product management and business stakeholders
